Recent studies have shown that a diet rich in tomatoes is strongly linked to a
reduced risk of prostate, cervical, pancreatic, colon and stomach cancers. Tomatoes
are nature's richest source of lycopene, a potent antioxidant. Lycopene is what
gives tomatoes their deep red color.
While cooked tomato products
offer protective benefits, raw tomatoes and tomato juice offer little protection.
This is because the cooking process breaks down the tomatoes' cell walls, releasing
more lycopene. The use of fats and oils in cooking enhances absorption of this
fat-soluble nutrient.
Some
studies on the preventive effects of tomato & lycopene:
•
In a six-year study of 48,000 males, Dr. E. Giovannucci and colleagues at Harvard
Medical School found that consuming tomato products more than twice a week reduced
the risk of developing prostate cancer by 21 to 34 percent.
•
Researchers at the University of Illinois reported that women with the highest
lycopene levels had a five times lower risk of developing cervical cancer than
women with the lowest lycopene levels.
•
In 1989, researchers at Johns Hopkins University reported that people with the
lowest levels of lycopene are five times more likely to develop pancreatic cancer.
Choosing
the right product:
The all-natural LYCO-MATO is the concentrated
extract of tomato. It is rich in lycopene, a powerful protective antioxidant.
Each soft-gel capsule contains 5 mg of lycopene to provide you the optimal health
benefit.
